Valentine's Day: Biggest Scare of My Life!

So this Valentine's Day wasn't exactly what I had planned! First of all, Jake was gone all day...so no romance there. Then...the biggest scare of my life....

I have to write this to help any other moms who might experience this sometime in their lives. This morning, Jade was playing and slipped on our linolium (sp?) floor backwards to hit his head pretty hard. I picked him up to hold him, then he went completely LIMP in my arms. His eyes were glazed and he was like a rag doll! For 5 seconds he was like this. I was patting his back, calling his name, and freaking out. Then he suddenly opened his eyes WIDE open and started to JOLT his body around! I was terrified!!!! A few seconds later, he came to. He was acting lathargic though. My close friend, Katie, was there luckily to comfort me and call the hospital.

We took him in immediately after being told that it was absolutely necessary to have him checked. We took him to the hospital and they ran some tests. Long story short...He is just fine. If this ever happens to your child, don't wait...call your doctor right away!

Signs to look for if there is need for concern (If you're like me, you don't wait for these signs):

  • bleeding in his ears

  • one eye is dialated much more than the other

  • arms or legs not responding normally

  • vomitting

  • sleeping longer than usual
This made me realize just how beautiful Jadin is to me. I felt so helpless having my baby go completely lifeless in my arms! It was horrible. He is so precious! He really does mean everything to me. Enjoy your little ones every second. And I really hope none of you experience anything like this ever!

I am so glad he is okay. I think my heart skipped a beat when I thought of going through the same experience. I can only compare that feeling with the one I had when I thought Bryson had fallen down our complete set of stairs. He had thrown a book down the stairs, but I thought that I was hearing his body hit every stair on the way down. I fell to the ground in tears when I got to the stairs and saw him sitting at the top, crying for his book.
Jadin is so precious. I am so sorry that you had to experience those types of emotions. We love you guys.
