Help Wanted...Calling all parents!

Now that Jadin is rejecting all baby food and wanting to eat all things mom and dad eat....I need ideas! What are some things I can fix for Jadin to eat for breakfasts, lunches, and dinners? The things I have tested and had success with are:
  • mac-n-cheese
  • saimen w/ veggies
  • canned veg/chicken soups
  • cubbed cheese
  • cubbed bananas
  • quesadillas
  • cereal bars (graduates)
But what else? Any ideas? Jadin just seems so bored with mealtime. I need help.
Thank you,
From a desperate mom

Hi, I linked to your blog from Sam and Lethe's. My son is almost 2 and also loves to eat what we eat, here are some things we give him, you may have to adjust depending on how many teeth your son has :)
Breakfast: eggs w/ cheese, baby cereal w/ fruit mixed in (we're constantly changing up the fruit, I get it frozen b/c it's cheaper and usually bite size already, then mix it with the cereal and nuke it 20-30 seconds), pancakes w/ fruit spread, whole wheat & fruit muffins
Lunch/Dinner: peanut butter sandwich (my dr said if you don't have a family history of an allergy then it's ok after they're 1, otherwise wait until he's 2 - he could probably eat other kinds of sandwiches, but my son takes them all apart, the peanut butter at least sticks to itself and says together, sort of), lots and lots and lots of the squiggly noodles (you know, the multi-colored veggie ones that they can easily manhandle and still get some vegetables) with all kinds of different sauces (literally anything that you would make with any other kind of noodle), lasagna, fish, chicken (has to be cut really small, maybe I'm just a bad chef, but my son always has a hard time chewing it - of course he is notorious for stuffing his mouth too full), chese ravioli cut in to quarters, sweet peas, mashed potatoes, corn (not too much!), dinner rolls, green beans, cauliflower, applesauce, fruits or vegetables of any kind really.
I know it's hard to get in that mode of cooking for adults and kids, but once you do, you'll realize that there really are a ton of options, especially as he gets older and better at chewing :) Good Luck!

Helaman has also stopped eating baby food too. He loves rice, hot dogs, bananas, apples, hamburger, canned chicken mixed with mayo, tuna, bread. Honestly he will eat whatever we eat if I cut it small enough. I am looking forward to hearing tips. Oh cream of mushroom and rice works well too.
Good luck.

hey heather...ava is a dairy girl so once they are 1...yogurt, eggs, cereal and milk, pancakes, rice, the simple and essentials..pasta is good too like elbow noodles or the pene' noodles..long noodles you would have to cut up, but she likes putting them on her fingers. she's not a fan of acidic foods such as spaghetti sauces, anything with tomato..might be different in your case though..if you make a sandwich, pbj, egg, tuna, etc you can grill it and/or use cookie cutter shapes and cut them into different shapes..they like that sometimes=) good luck!

Navi J loved cubed chicken and fruits. You know those little fruit cups that you can get, he downed them!! He still is a chicken fanatic :)
Just keep trying things, you'll get it - you're a GREAT mom...

Hi Heather! Okay, Jadin is so dang cute! I just want to reach through the computer and pinch his adorable little cheeks!

Kiana just turned one on the 17th (I forgot how close they are!) She will eat just about anything and everything the rest of us eat. I usually just pull out my food chopper and chop up stuff that she can't quite chew yet. Tonight we had enchiladas and corn and she loved them! Funny, she wouldn't eat the tiny pieces of grapes though! She spit them right out, but I think it's more of a texture thing with her! We've given her everything from roast beef and mashed potatoes to spaghetti with meatballs. I figure if she likes it and it's good enough for my boys, then it'll be good enough for Kiana too!

We even have "taco tuesday" at our house (sometimes this turns into "taco thursday" depending on how my day goes on tuesdays). I just tear up pieces of wheat bread in her bowl and add all the taco toppings on top: beef, cheese, tomatoes, olives, etc. (I did leave off the lettuce.)

She loves it and I think she really loves tasting new things. We always just put it in front of her and she digs in with her spoon (and her free hand, too, of course.) She actually refuses to eat ANYTHING if she doesn't have her own spoon in her hand...even when we used to spoon feed her, she still had to have a spoon in her hand!

Anyway, take the food tips or leave them! They work great for us, but every kid is different. So you'll probably have to play around with different things until you find what works for Jadin. Then, when you get another kid, you'll have to figure it all out again for them!

OOOH! I'm so glad you posted this. I feel like Malia's menu was getting so repetitive. Thanks for all the help! Your little boy is SOO cute heather!
